What compels everyone to seek the absolute cheapest hosting possible?

Nobody chooses the cheapest shoes, car or paediatrician. Is it so hard to comprehend that the concept of value is universal, or do people simply refuse to accept it?

Yes there is a sliding scale, simply forking over thousands isn't going to necessarily guarantee you better service, and there is most definitely a "sweet spot" that one must always aim for, to balance cost with quality.

Why not go for the cheapest hosting you may ask? A response of "No" or "kinda" to any of the following questions should result in instant lus-taking:
- Do they provide backups all aspects of your web hosting (databases / emails)?
- Have they existed for longer than 2 years?
- Do they provide 24/7 support?
- Do they answer their phones? (call them at least twice to test)
- Is there an uptime guarantee?
- Do they provide anti virus/spam email filtering?
- Do they have an open, community forum? (Also check how active they are).
