Gaming: Half-Life 2

Well I just finished HL2 and I gotta say as a whole I am a bit disappointed, sure they broke down a lot of "walls" in gaming and its really gone to another level, but the story was just weak and over-complicated (well maybe it only seemed complicated because it was lame so I didn't pay attention).
Don't get me wrong the second game was still very enjoyable, I mean the physics engine alone makes it a great game, not to mention the car, boat and other groovy stuff you encounter along the way, but the thing that cheesed me off mostly was the ending. It was total poo, you blow up a stupid pole with lightning coming off it and then out of the blue the old man who sounds like he is constipated comes and says some crap and thats *it* - WTF!? Where are the huge bosses and other strange creatures that everyone expected to battle?
The ending left me feeling unsatisfied - the only reason I kept going really was to get some answers which you don't ever get - instead they just pile you up with more questions! BLAH ARGG, it sucked - a huge build up to the climax only to be left high and dry.
Now the first half life story on the other hand is epic - in fact in my opinion the first HL is probably the best first person shoot-em-up ever. Everything was superb. The overall atmosphere of the first takes this one to the cleaners.
Well they had just better explain some more in HL3 - if it ever happens (which I'm sure it will).
The final thing that made me think less of the HL2 was the way the story was not only weak but they "borrowed" so much from other famous stories, where as the initial was totally innovative and original.
1)Star Trek
I'm no Star Trek fan but even I could identify the similarity between "The Combine" and The Borg from Star Trek.
2) The Matrix
The way they stored the humans in their little pods and moved them around, in fact the whole setting and "general feel" inside the tower at the end was quite similiar.

HL2 was like an uncircumsised man c-ck, long and hard till just before the ending where it gets siff and floppy.
